Our Story

How we started

"For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope."

-Jeremiah 29:11. This extraordinary promise has truly become reality for New Hope Church since its inception eleven years ago. It's my privilege to share with you the short, but exciting history of New Hope and God's faithfulness throughout it.

New Hope was birthed as a result of five men praying over many months. They prayed for the Lord's direction on the behalf of a small nucleus of people. These people believed in and desired to proclaim, without hindrance, the good news of Jesus Christ.

As a result of the faithfulness of those prayer warriors, it was my privilege to officiate at the first service held in the Arena Club room at the Northwest Savings Bank Ice Arena. Thirty-four people attended this service which was the first service for what would become New Hope Church. On May 8th, 2008, New Hope Church became recognized as a legally licensed incorporated church by the state of New York and the federal government.

As weeks passed, New Hope was being blessed in many ways especially by the growing number of families with children. Because of the large number of children attending, the inability to minister to them sufficiently, and facility restrictions, a building search committee was formed to pursue a larger place of worship. In November of 2008, the Lord provided a new place of worship, the YWCA Lake Lodge. Although the Lodge provided the additional space we needed to grow numerically as well as the versatility of doing more ministry, God kept blessing us with more new families. Again, we found ourselves looking for a larger place to accommodate the growing numbers.

On September 3rd, 2010, we moved into our new location, the downtown Jamestown YWCA. Although the facility met our needs, the church leadership felt a growing desire to find our own place, a permanent home. As a result of more prayer and a determined search pursuit, God displayed His faithfulness by leading us to our present home, the former Concordia Lutheran Church at 80 City View Avenue in Jamestown. What a blessing it is! We own three and a half acres at a prime location for ministry. God is so good!

As amazing as all these aforementioned moves were as directed by the hand of the Lord, the most amazing thing about New Hope is its people and the heart or spirit of the church. I have pastored four other churches over a span of thirty years and I have never seen or been a part of such a loving, caring, cooperative, and sincerely warm and friendly group of people. If you are searching for a church home, a place where you will be accepted for who you are, a place where you can make lifelong quality friendships, a place where you matter and will be loved and cared for, a place where you will hear the truth of the Word preached and taught without compromise, then I ask that you will prayerfully consider New Hope. It is here where you will find all of those things and so much more!
